Grief: Its Opportunities
We now realize that grief can be devastating to our characters in its ability to cause us to exist in anger, bitterness, and resentment. These negative emotions and reactions not only impact the grieving individuals, but everyone who interacts with them. An entire family dynamic can be altered as the result of one individual’s inability to arise from the chaotic assault of grief into a more worthwhile frame of mind.
But…what happens when we navigate grief God’s way? What is on the opposite end of the spectrum of possibilities?
Grief is the life-altering anguish that permeates one’s being as a result of profound loss, its potential for imprint ranging from anger, bitterness, and resentment to anticipation, benevolence, and renewal, with the difference in outcome resting on the degree to which the sufferer seeks God’s solace, and relies on Him to transform fear and floundering into faith, fruitfulness, and flourishing.
So …unless you’re okay with a life defined by all those negative emotions, it becomes urgent to understand what’s on the other end of the sliding scale of Grief’s Potential for Impact. This deeper meaning tells us that at the opposite end of anger, bitterness, and resentment lie anticipation, benevolence, and renewal. What a contrast! These words paint a picture of hope, encouragement, joy, the propensity toward compassion for others–a forward-thinking mentality defined by appreciation and rejuvenation. What obvious differences must exist in a life characterized by these things vs. the cloak of anger and resentment!!
There also exists the range of possibilities between the worst and the best, the most negative and the most positive, the least desirable and the most desirable ways to define one’s life on earth as a survivor of loss.
So what makes the difference? Let’s look again at our deeper meaning. The difference lies in the degree to which the sufferer seeks God’s solace, and relies on Him to transform fear and floundering into faith, fruitfulness, and flourishing.
When we actively engage in navigating grief God’s way, we give Him the opportunity to add an entirely new layer to our characters. It is a journey worth taking. These results can also impact an entire family dynamic…in the most positive way possible!
